Topsy Grewlike, also known as Topsy Quret, is the man behind the collaborative online project called Quivr. We asked him to explain all about this project to Alison Stockwell in a five-minute long audio interview.
(Note that the sound quality is a little bit rough at first, but it does get better about 30 seconds in.)

DAAMN is an email group for digital artists, run by three people.
DAAMN was founded by Mark, Pete and Clare in 2006. In early 2007, Mark stepped down to concentrate on other projects, and was replaced by Brian.
In 2007,
- members of DAAMN and NewcastleGraft travelled to Berlin for transmediale
- we had a residency at gallery glue featuring
- talks on machinima, mobile cinema and visual programming
- artwork from topsy, and Connor Lawless exhibited
- collaborative pieces by Clare and Pete were developed together with local artists and wider community
- I got to grips with Arduino and a bit of basic toy hacking
- Pete and I were on hand to help local artists fix their computers

Submitted by pete on Sun, 07/22/2007 - 13:26. We’re off, starting the Glue Gallery residency, and it’s going really well - we’ve had a full morning of people dropping in to talk to Topsy. Thankfully, Topsy snuck into the gallery yesterday and put up his wonderful Quivr quilt, so they had something to look at! More details to follow, as we are all snacking on stuff from el cheapo food shop down the road right now.

DAAMN are taking the opportunity of having space in the real world to show an exhibition of artists who use new media tools.
Exhibiting artists include Ele Carpenter, Topsy Grewlike, Clare Ruddock and Conor Lawless.
Topsy Grewlike will be showing the work of his friends, rather than his own work. For the past year, this bastion of the local artistic scene has been exploring web 2.0’s greatest hit, the online community known as Flickr. He has created a project that allows individual users to reflect on their method of communication with their computers. Each photo in their collaborative work features a small arrow motif, a handmade sculpture which has now reached all over the world. Drop in on Sunday to see some of the photographers
Open Source Embroidery is a socially engaged new media art project, drawing parallels between the craft environment of knitting, embroidering, and weaving, and the Open Source Software movement.
As part of the Open Source Embroidery project, Clare Ruddock will be inviting visitors to the exhibition to contribute to the HTML Patchwork project. A collaborative project between members of DAAMN in Newcastle and Access Space in Sheffield. For more information visit Ele Carpenter’s blog, which has a selection of relevant links.
Lastly, we are very proud to include the work of Conor Lawless, a mathematician by trade, currently working at the University of Newcastle on the properties of genetic code. Thankfully, Conor relaxes by creating a stream of lens-based works. In the short showreel of films he has created recently, Conor has applied his mathematical know-how to video files, manipulating them in several different ways.
